Christian Têtedoie, whom I have the privilege of knowing well, is one of those chefs whose journey tells a story that goes far beyond gastronomic success. A major figure in Lyon cuisine, named a Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 1996, awarded a Michelin star in 2000 and distinguished with a Michelin Green Star in 2021, he embodies a form of gastronomy that is at once demanding, generous and profoundly human. In 2026, as he celebrates fifty years in the culinary profession and thirty years as a MOF, he has just been awarded the Gault&Millau d’Or Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
But reducing Christian Têtedoie to his distinctions would be to miss what matters most. For him, excellence is never an end in itself. It comes with a conviction: expertise only has meaning if it is passed on. Having trained notably under Paul Bocuse, Roger Vergé and Georges Blanc, he considers his Meilleur Ouvrier de France title a responsibility. “Passing it on” is almost a moral obligation for him, a way of giving back what previous generations taught him.
This desire to pass on knowledge lies at the heart of his commitment to young chefs. His establishments have become genuine places of learning and stepping stones for a new generation of chefs. He encourages, supports and advises them, gives young talents a chance, and champions a profession that, in his view, can only continue to progress by sharing its knowledge.
His commitment, however, extends far beyond the kitchen. Christian Têtedoie has become involved with people who are ill, particularly in matters related to nutrition and the difficulties associated with certain treatments. During the health crisis, this commitment earned him the title of “Cuisinier Solidaire de l’Année,” awarded by Gault&Millau in 2021. He also advocates for responsible, local and sustainable food, convinced that chefs bear part of the responsibility for the health and future of generations to come.
This environmental awareness is not merely theoretical. It is nourished by his relationship with ingredients, the vegetable garden, producers and nature. His cuisine favors a form of truth: respecting the product, limiting waste, working as closely as possible with the seasons and rediscovering the meaning of “eating consciously.” The birth of his grandchildren has strengthened his determination to contribute, on his own scale, to a more sustainable world.
Finally, there is a more intimate dimension to Christian Têtedoie, one marked by self-questioning and courage. His personal journey bears witness to a man who, in his fifties, chose to fully embrace his homosexuality after having lived for a long time with this part of himself. Far from being anecdotal, this stage represents, according to the words accompanying his new book, a genuine “second birth.” It may shed a different light on his relationship with sincerity, humanity and sharing.
It is precisely this multifaceted personality — chef, entrepreneur, educator, committed citizen and man of conviction — that is portrayed in Christian Têtedoie. Le goût du partage, written with journalist Jean-Baptiste Cocagne and published by Glénat on June 10, 2026. Featuring around ten recipes, the book retraces his professional and personal journey and shows how, for him, gastronomy has become a way of caring for others and for the planet.
A title that ultimately suits him perfectly: because behind the taste for excellence, it is truly the taste for sharing that seems to have become, over the years, Christian Têtedoie’s true signature.
