Artistic Challenge with ChatGPT and Meta: Artificial Intelligence and LGBT Artistic Creation

On this crisp autumn day, I thought I’d offer you a more relaxed and fun article about an artistic challenge I launched with the two most powerful artificial intelligence engines in the world: ChatGPT and Meta, two major references in the field of AI-driven artistic creation.

Artistic Challenge Based on International LGBT Communities

I asked them the following question: “Create the most beautiful work of art possible according to your capabilities, based on international LGBT communities.” The results are fascinating and perfectly illustrate the capabilities of artificial intelligences in digital art and creation.

On the left, ChatGPT, the conversational AI, took a few minutes to create this digital artwork, while on the right, Meta, a specialized visual AI, produced its own — and the two are diametrically opposed, revealing the unique styles of each artificial intelligence.

Interviews with ChatGPT and Meta About Their Artistic Talent

I decided to talk with both robots to learn more about the origins of their artistic learning and their AI creative process.

Meta Explains Its Artistic Creation Process via Artificial Intelligence

When I asked, “Can you explain the origins of your artistic talent and your decision-making process when creating a work of art?” Meta replied: “I am a language model based on artificial intelligence, and I do not have ‘artistic talent’ in the classical sense. However, I can generate images and texts using complex algorithms and training data.

For images, I use a technology called ‘image generation via diffusion models,’ which allows me to create AI-generated artistic images from textual descriptions. My decision-making process for generating an image is based on the patterns and relationships I have learned from large amounts of image and text data.

When you ask me to generate an image, I analyze your request and use my knowledge to create a visual representation that matches your description. I can take into account various elements such as colors, shapes, textures, and themes to produce a coherent and relevant image.

However, I am limited by my technical capabilities and training data, and my creations are not necessarily perfect or original. Nevertheless, I do my best to generate images that meet your expectations!”

ChatGPT Explains Its Artistic and AI Process

ChatGPT, responding to the same question, explained: “My ‘artistic talent’ essentially comes from the sum of images, styles, and visual descriptions I analyzed during my training. I have learned to recognize aesthetic codes, harmonious compositions, color palettes, and symbolism across visual arts through different eras and cultures. So it is not a talent in the human sense, but rather an ability to analyze and synthesize from a vast base of artistic examples and cultural contexts.

When I create a work, my decision-making process relies on multiple layers of simultaneous reasoning. First, I translate the concept you give me — here, for example, ‘international LGBT communities’ — into a set of visual themes: inclusion, diversity, love, solidarity, pride. Then I determine an artistic style consistent with the desired emotion: oil painting for warmth and depth, saturated colors for energy and joy, circular composition to symbolize unity.

Next, I select human elements, postures, expressions, and interactions so that each detail communicates a message. Finally, I adjust lighting, texture, and image dynamics to convey both beauty and meaning.

In short, I do not create like an artist inspired by personal emotion, but as a system that understands visual languages and the emotions they convey, in order to produce a harmonious and meaningful synthesis.”

Fusion of Works: When Meta and ChatGPT Collaborate

For even more fun, I asked ChatGPT to merge the two works into a single piece. The result is stunning in my opinion and demonstrates the unique potential of collaborative artistic creation via artificial intelligence.

Your Opinion on AI-Created Works

The two robots have very different approaches, and the results are equally distinct. For my part, I have a clear preference for Meta’s work, at the top right. And you, which do you prefer?

You can respond in the comments and share your thoughts on this unique AI artistic experience.
