2025 was a record-breaking year for Montreal Pride, with a multitude of events spread across downtown and the east end of the city — but above all, with unprecedented crowds in the Gay Village, the likes of which hadn’t been seen in many years.
This edition was also marked by a genuine debate over the management of Montreal Pride. These exchanges revealed diverging interpretations of what the LGBTQ+ communities mean — and should mean — in a modern world where current events quickly catch up with any celebration.
Where Montreal Pride truly excelled was in organizing activities in strategic locations, breathing new life into the Village, its merchants, and all organizations — whether commercial, corporate, or community-based. This is the very essence of such a celebration: to showcase groups from across the regions, services, and businesses proud to display our colors in a world where the erasure of LGBTQ+ identities looms, yet where we are still extraordinarily fortunate to live in a country that recognizes our lives and our contributions to society.
We must take the time to appreciate this organization’s successes. Debates will continue — they always will — but these discussions must never turn into gay bashing, for that would only hand victory to our opponents.
Thank you, Montreal Pride, for the 2025 season… and here’s to the future!
