More than ever in our collective and democratic history, the progress toward full emancipation of LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as their allies and partners, is being undermined worldwide due to the unbelievable and unsustainable actions of the new President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Donald Trump poses a serious threat to the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, as his populist discourse fuels intolerance and legitimates social setbacks. Under his influence, discriminatory policies have been reactivated, crucial protections have been removed, and hateful voices have been strengthened. He instrumentalizes fear to divide and marginalize, making those who depend on the law for their safety and dignity more vulnerable. This is not a simple political divergence; it’s a real risk to a fundamental freedom.

The LGBTQ+ movement has profoundly transformed society by advancing values of equality, dignity, and respect for all, regardless of their orientation or identity. It has broadened collective awareness of human rights by breaking taboos and challenging rigid norms imposed by tradition. By demanding justice and inclusion, it has paved the way for a more tolerant society where diversity is better understood and more widely accepted. This fight has enriched our culture, laws, and human relationships, bringing us closer to a truly democratic ideal.

HIV research has revolutionized our understanding of infectious diseases and the immune system, profoundly transforming modern medicine. Advances in tracking immune responses and developing specific therapies have refined treatments not only for HIV but also for other viral and chronic conditions. These discoveries have guided improvements in prevention strategies, optimized development of more targeted and less toxic medications, and enriched knowledge on managing immune disorders. This scientific journey has globally renewed our approach to healthcare and stimulated major therapeutic innovations.

Diseases such as hepatitis C, certain types of immune system-related cancers, fungal and viral opportunistic infections, tuberculosis, and even COVID-19 have benefited from advances in HIV research. Thanks to progress in virology, pharmacology, and immunotherapy developed for HIV, these diseases have seen the emergence of more effective treatments, better prevention strategies, and a finer understanding of their interactions with the immune system. The scientific legacy of the fight against HIV continues to inform the management of many complex and chronic conditions.

Through advances in equality for all, the cultural domain has been significantly enriched, as has the scientific field, and to some extent, the evolution of major religions has also been influenced.
