The entire province of Quebec woke up this morning to a very different metropolis than yesterday, with a new mayor, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, daughter of Chilean political refugees, leading the central city. But that’s not all: she also becomes the mayor of the Ville-Marie borough, which includes the Gay Village.

Councillor Robert Beaudry, from Projet Montréal, who helped shape the current state of the Village, lost his seat. Furthermore, Luc Rabouin, leader of Projet Montréal, the former party of Mayor Valérie Plante, announced that he will not take on the role of leader of the opposition as he resigns from his duties.
