Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church has made a name for himself as America’s most rabidly homophobic pastor. He is so vociferously anti-gay that Botswana arrested and deported him for inciting hate against LGBT people in a radio interview.
Anderson’s “church” is listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The minister, who praised the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, has also been banned from South Africa, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
“The good news is that there’s 50 less pedophiles in this world, because, you know, these homosexuals are a bunch of disgusting perverts and pedophiles,” Anderson said at the time of the Pulse shootings.
Now he’s planning a “mission” trip to Jamaica to spread his hateful poison to Christians in the notoriously anti-gay island nation. Jamaican activists, however, aren’t happy with the idea and have begun petitioning the government to ban Anderson from the country.
A petition on change.org asks the Jamaican government to prevent Anderson from entering the country to swill his noxious brew of hate and suspicion. A similar petition led to Anderson’s ban on entering South Africa.
“By calling for the killing of gay people, Pastor Andersons’ messages are homophobic and condone violence against fellow human beings and a group that is already marginalized,” the petition reads. “We the People, are asking the Jamaican Government to show leadership and stand as an example to fellow Caribbean countries to denounce terrorism.and violence against marginalized groups.”
Anderson is scheduled to arrive on the island on January 29.
