Reader’s mail #129

Hi Gay Globe, I like your magazine and your classic movies, but I think you do not give enough space to gay community organizations that offer free services. Could you give them one page at least to make them known?
(Florent V., Laval)

Hi Florent, if we do not dedicate space to publish a registry of selected community groups, it is for two reasons. Firstly, it is not the role of a media to publish such registers. La Presse, the Journal de Montreal, TVA or Radio-Canada do not dedicate any time or space because if we were to start doing that, we would have to make sure we publish everybody and that would only create injustices. But I assure you, we publish on our French site at www.gayglobe.net, at the bottom of the page, a list of resources that we believe essential, same thing on our English page at https://gayglobe.us/english.html . Secondly, this type of registry has been widely published for years in the Fugues Guide, which gives a number of pages to these organizations. The Internet also makes it easy to find all these organizations. So it is for these reasons that we prefer to dedicate our pages to informative and professional editorial content.

For me, the project of cutting the Camilien-Houde Way and preventing cars from crossing Mount Royal was a great idea until I read your text « The Wall of Montreal » which scared me a lot and that puts in the face some cultural realities that we take for granted and are in danger with this project. I withdraw my support for that and I wanted to make it known publicly. Thanks for talking about it …
(Micheline D., Montreal)

This is exactly what a media should be used for, make people think, and get readers to question their decisions. Thank you Micheline for your word, but as you probably knew, we never publish the complete identity of the readers in order to allow everyone to comment on the news without receiving hateful or unpleasant messages thereafter.

I really like the concept of regular columns in Gay Globe magazine. It is always informative and my favorite is « those great homos of the past » that make me realize the richness and diversity of history.
(Gilles V., Terrebonne)

Thank you Gilles. Indeed, the concept of regular columns allows to continually deepen subjects that deserve more than one page. The example you give highlights that today’s society was built with the decisions of leaders of the past who could openly live their homosexuality and set an example in their own way. Me too that fascinates me. Thank you.

I just can not get faded balls in the Village every year that we present as a unique tourist attraction while when we look a little down to reality, we see too many people with social unrest, poverty, drug addicts, all that human misery hidden by multicolored balls. When will a serious revitalization of the Village take care of all this violence?
(Martine P., Montreal)

Hi Martine, we’ve been talking about it for so long that if things do not evolve positively, even just a little, there is no political or social will to change things. There would be so much to do. A lot of little things to do if we only had the support of some elements of the Quebec, Canadian or Montreal government, but nothing to do, the current social and economic crisis situation is managed as it is because those who represent us in front of these authorities no longer have any credibility. Do not make me believe that homelessness pays off for the Village, that it generates any activity that requires its presence and tolerance. We could EASILY set up a gateway system that welcomes anyone, sick or destitute, to assist them immediately in housing and mental and medical reconstruction. How much does it cost? Certainly less than the tourist losses caused by the presence of these cases in the middle of the Village. The authorities do not want to know anything. THEN change of authorities. Demand the departure of powerless social decision-makers and we will see …
