Women’s College Hospital Offering Innovative Transition Related Surgery Education Series
Access to transition related surgeries is a complicated and often confusing process and limited resources available to people considering the surgery can lead to delays, barriers in accessing services, and inefficiencies in learning about funding options.
That’s why I am excited to share that Women’s College Hospital will now offer free virtual seminars for trans people, gender diverse people and their loved ones in Ontario who are making important life affirming decisions surrounding Transition Related Surgery (TRS). As the first hospital-based TRS program in the country, the program endeavors to educate relevant community members and equip them with the knowledge they need so they can feel confident during this important period in their lives.
Hosted by Women’s College Hospital’s recently expanded TRS team, the seminars aim to provide an accessible pathway for education on the surgery, surgical techniques, surgical outcomes, funding options and the patient experience. These events will offer prospective patients an anonymous opportunity to engage with medical experts to discuss this important milestone in their lives and will include a Q&A period at the end of each seminar.
The experts leading the TRS Virtual Seminar Series will include:
· Dr. Yonah Krakowsky, Medical Director of the TRS program
· Emery Potter, Nurse Practitioner and clinical lead of the program
· Dr. Katie Armstrong, Plastic Surgeon
· Dr. Alexandra Millman, Urologist
· Nahir Anashara, Nurse Practitioner
