At one time, LGBT struggles required society – heterosexuals – to stop marginalizing people from LGBT communities. Because living out homosexuality in broad daylight or affirming that one is transsexual is like living on the margins of society. Today, the « new gender » militancy of community circles, which some describe as the pink lobby, allows us to see that communities want to be … marginal, by choice.
Marginal: Nobody living on the margins of society and refusing to conform to social norms.
Marginalize: Make someone marginal.
To marginalize oneself: To become marginal in all conscience.
Is this one of the excesses associated with new philosophies advocating the enrichment of difference in a group of individuals? It should not be surprising that Mr. and Mrs. Everybody have difficulty in finding our way in our battles. I attribute much of it to the work of community organizations, most of which are located in Montreal. They are elbowing to advance their agendas, while if everyone gets together, there will be more social cohesion and … probably more allies gathered for the sake of our common causes. Now that society is accepting LGB realities much better – there is still a long way to go to get the same level of acceptability towards the T -, new letters are coming to « nuance » – mix – people. Those who understand better the nature of homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexualism find it difficult to understand what they are accused of not understanding.
For them, it is unimaginable that we can go further in our demands. In « LGBTQQIP2SAA … », too many letters, too many nuances … Also, few serious studies to inform and educate, only opinions … It is there the new problem of the pink communitarianism: it is at the origin of a lot of changes of which he is the only one to know. Indeed, the activists and leaders of these organizations are convinced that by giving birth to new terms to describe certain realities and by conducting discussions between them, the rest of the world is informed and should accept it more easily, even as soon as he hears about it for the first time!
A society, to move forward, must question the concepts. We have seen for the first realities having formed an acronym, the world has not changed his tune with ease. 50 years later, everything remains fragile. And is weakened by the new ways of conducting the fighting … No wonder, moreover, that the generational gap is widening between the oldest militants and the youngest. In the light of what I have observed, communitarianism is, for me, synonymous with withdrawal and social rupture with the rest of civil society. The pink organisms are painted in a corner and are marginalized much too much. If they invoke the fact of not being understood, it is high time for them to see that misunderstanding is caused by their deeds and actions. Stop playing in the navel and return to the real world! We deserve better as a civilian representation!
* Although this text seems to generalize, the author acknowledges that many organizations struggle effectively for the advancement of our rights.
